‘SEDIA to Strengthen the Development and Commercialisation of the Ayam Kampung Industry in Sabah’

Kota Kinabalu — The Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (SEDIA) today held the Roundtable and Strategic Meeting with Heads of Departments/Stakeholders – Exploring the Potential and Empowerment of the Ayam Kampung Industry in Sabah to discuss the direction and potential for the development of the ayam kampung industry in Sabah.

The objective behind organising this programme is to identify challenges and opportunities as well as sustainable implementation strategies in strengthening this industry as part of food security and safety efforts, rural economic empowerment, and the development of local agro-based enterprises.

The session was chaired by SEDIA Chief Executive YBhg. Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hashim Paijan, and was also attended by YBhg. Datuk Leonard Stephen Poyong, Permanent Secretary of the Sabah Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry (MAFFI), Heads and representatives of State and Federal Departments, a line-up of academics, industry players, and private agencies, as well as facilitators.

This roundtable session discussed the following six topics:

  • Value chain and market for ayam kampung;
  • Sustainable and cost-effective chicken nutrition;
  • Suitable breeding Sabah’s climate and conditions;
  • Village-based community farming model;
  • Youth training and skills development; and
  • Issues of food security and community resilience.

In the afternoon, the programme continued with a SEDIA Strategic Meeting with Heads of Departments/Stakeholders which was also chaired by SEDIA Chief Executive YBhg. Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hashim bin Paijan. This meeting brought together experts, academics as well as the private and public sectors to discuss the findings of the roundtable session.

Among those present at this meeting were YBhg. Nor Rashidah binti Mohd Ghazali (Director of the Sabah Department of Environment), YBhg. Fitrisubroto bin Haji Yahmin (Director of the Sabah Farmers’ Organisation Board), YBhg. Dr. Noraini binti Samad (Director of the Livestock Science Research Centre, Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute [MARDI]) Serdang, Selangor, SEDIA’s management, Heads and representatives of State and Federal Departments, Academics, industry players, and private agencies as well as facilitators.

This meeting served as a platform to channel views and feedback, as well as strengthen mutual commitment in efforts to strengthen the ayam kampung industry in Sabah as one of the state’s food security initiatives.

Kota Kinabalu — Pihak Berkuasa Pembangunan Ekonomi dan Pelaburan Sabah (SEDIA) hari ini telah menganjurkan sesi Meja Bulat dan Mesyuarat Strategik SEDIA bersama Ketua Jabatan / Pemegang Taruh – Penerokaan Potensi serta Pemerkasaan Industri Ayam Kampung di Sabah bagi membincangkan hala tuju dan potensi pembangunan industri ayam kampung di Sabah.

Penganjuran program ini bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti cabaran dan peluang serta strategi pelaksanaan yang mampan dalam memperkukuh industri ini sebagai sebahagian daripada usaha keterjaminan dan keselamatan makanan, pemerkasaan ekonomi luar bandar, dan pembangunan perusahaan asas tani tempatan.

Sesi tersebut telah dipengerusikan oleh Ketua Eksekutif SEDIA YBhg. Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hashim Paijan, dan turut dihadiri oleh YBhg. Datuk Leonard Stephen Poyong (Setiausaha Tetap Kementerian Pertanian, Perikanan dan Industri Makanan Sabah [MAFFI]), Ketua-ketua dan wakil Jabatan Negeri dan Persekutuan, barisan ahli-ahli akademik, pemain industri, dan agensi swasta, serta fasilitator.

Sesi meja bulat ini telah membincangkan enam topik berikut:

  • Rantaian nilai dan pasaran ayam kampung;
  • Pemakanan ayam yang mampan dan keberkesanan kos;
  • Pembiakbakaan sesuai untuk iklim dan keadaan di Sabah;
  • Model penternakan komuniti berasaskan kampung;
  • Latihan dan pembangunan kemahiran belia; dan
  • Isu keterjaminan makanan dan ketahanan komuniti.

Pada sebelah petang, program diteruskan dengan Mesyuarat strategik SEDIA bersama Ketua Jabatan / Pemegang Taruh yang turut dipengerusikan oleh Ketua Eksekutif SEDIA YBhg. Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Hashim bin Paijan. Mesyuarat ini menghimpunkan pakar-pakar, ahli akademik, sektor swasta dan kerajaan untuk membincangkan hasil dapatan daripada sesi meja bulat.

Antara yang hadir dalam mesyuarat ini termasuklah YBhg. Puan Nor Rashidah binti Mohd Ghazali (Pengarah Jabatan Alam Sekitar Sabah), YBhg. Encik Fitrisubroto bin Haji Yahmin (Pengarah Lembaga Pertubuhan Peladang Sabah), YBhg. Dr. Noraini binti Samad (Pengarah Pusat Penyelidikan Sains Ternakan, Institut Penyelidikan dan Kemajuan Pertanian Malaysia [MARDI]) Serdang, Selangor, Barisan Pengurusan Tertinggi SEDIA, Ketua-ketua serta wakil-wakil Jabatan Negeri dan Persekutuan, barisan Ahli Akademik, pemain industri, dan agensi-agensi swasta serta barisan fasilitator.

Mesyuarat kali ini berperanan sebagai platform bagi menyalurkan pandangan dan maklum balas, serta mengukuhkan komitmen bersama dalam usaha memperkasa industri ayam kampung di Sabah sebagai salah satu inisiatif keterjaminan makanan negeri.

Pihak SEDIA merakamkan penghargaan dan terima kasih kepada semua ketua jabatan dan agensi serta pemegang taruh yang terlibat dalam sesi Meja Bulat dan Mesyuarat Strategik atas komitmen yang diberikan dalam usaha merealisasikan potensi industri ayam kampung di Sabah.
