Pitching session for Series 1 SUPERB 2017@SDC programme held in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

Kota Kinabalu (Friday) - The Bumiputera Agenda Steering Unit (TERAJU) and the Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (SEDIA) had co-organised the first round of pitching under TERAJU’s Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Startup Scheme (Skim Usahawan Permulaan Bumiputera) or SUPERB this morning.

SEDIA Chief Executive Datuk Dr. Mohd. Yaakub Hj. Johari (seated, sixth from left) with panel of judges and Sabah SUPERB Pitching participants.

Altogether fifteen (15) participants pitched their business ideas in front of six (6) judges. The judges comprised of representatives from several local Chambers of Commerce, DIDR, TERAJU, and SEDIA. The participants that had managed to qualify during the pitching round will succeed to the semi-final to be held in Kuala Lumpur.

Launched in 2014, SUPERB is an initiative under TERAJU which encourages and empowers entrepreneurs via financial assistance. The scheme is a RM100 million grant fund allocated to finance Bumiputera entrepreneurs and startup companies, assisting these entrepreneurs in commercialising their products. The funding through SUPERB will open up opportunities for those without academic qualifications but with creative and innovative business ideas, as the aim of the scheme is to uncover young talents through business pitching competitions.

SUPERB also serves as a platform for aspiring entrepreneurs to share their ideas and knowledge, done so at a large scale and – at three times a year – very frequently. Several agencies and successful entrepreneurs are also called in to guide and advise these budding entrepreneurs.
